Virtual Summit: Whither Medicare – From Promise to Privatization

April 30, 2020, 1:00 PM EDT- 4:00 PM EDT

Virtual Summit and Rockefeller Lecture, by Webinar

Single-Participant Registration: $150

Registration also includes follow-up webinar on May 20, 2020 2-3 PM EDT

The Center for Medicare Advocacy’s 7th annual National Voices of Medicare Summit & Senator Jay Rockefeller Lecture will allow leading experts and advocates to consider best practices, challenges and successes in efforts to improve access to quality health coverage and care, especially in these trying times. Against the increasing privatization of Medicare, COVID-19, voter focus on health care, and talk about Medicare for All, the 2020 Summit will focus on the promise, challenges to, and future of Medicare.

  • How can Medicare be improved for all people who qualify, now and in the future?
  • What was the original vision and promise of Medicare?
  • Is Medicare as a social insurance program a thing of the past?
  • Will Medicare be allowed to “wither on the vine,” as Newt Gingrich suggested?
  • Should Medicare be the model for universal coverage?

The Center for Medicare Advocacy is honored to welcome Wendell Potter as this year’s Sen. Jay Rockefeller Lecturer.  Mr. Potter is a former health insurance company executive who walked away from his job in 2008 after what he has described as a crisis of conscience, and, in June of 2009, went public with what he knew about insurance industry practices in riveting Congressional testimony in riveting Congressional testimony.  Mr. Potter is the best-selling author of Deadly Spin and Nation on the Take as well as contributor of hundreds of articles and columns for publications in the United States and abroad, including USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Newsweek and the Guardian, and a frequent guest on TV and radio. Mr. Potter is the founder of Tarbell.org, a journalism nonprofit that investigates the power and influence of big corporations and other special interests and co-host of the podcast The Potter Report.

Additional details to follow.
