On Wednesday the US Senate rejected the House budget resolution that would turn Medicare into a voucher program that would, according to the Congressional Budget Office, immediately double out of pocket costs for people with Medicare. The vote was also a major victory for Medicaid, which supplements Medicare for many older Americans and people with disabilities, keeping it supported and regulated by the Federal government.
The Center for Medicare Advocacy thanks all those who took the time to contact their Senators to speak out on this issue and secure this victory for these programs, which are so important to so many.
However Medicare and Medicaid still face potential cuts through other proposals that could arise in Congress, so we must be ready to act again. Keep watching this space for more updates.
Let’s stick with what we know: Medicare works.
