The Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc. (the Center) is a private, non-profit law organization that provides legal assistance and education to help older people and people with disabilities gain fair access to Medicare and health care. The Center focuses on the needs of people with chronic conditions and those in need of long-term care. The organization’s work includes individual advocacy, education, legislative analysis, and litigation of importance to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. Headquartered in Connecticut and Washington, DC, the Center also has attorneys in CA, MA and NJ.
The Center has an immediate opening for a paralegal in its Connecticut office. The paralegal will be a member of a team that leads the organization’s advocacy for low-income Medicare beneficiaries. The paralegal will assess Medicare denials and determine the likelihood of success on appeal in a high-volume practice; provide extensive review of case files with a heavy emphasis on medical record content; and frequently perform administrative hearings. The paralegal will also be a member of the information, referral and direct service teams. In addition, the paralegal may write materials and present at seminars for other professionals and the Medicare community.
The Connecticut office is located in Mansfield − 15 minutes from the University of Connecticut, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1½ hours from Boston and 2½ hours from New York City. Some remote work is an option.
A college degree and paralegal certificate are required. The paralegal must also have excellent oral, written, and organizational skills; a collaborative community spirit; and a passion for social justice.
