The Consortium for Medically Necessary Oral Health Coverage released a public statement last week supporting the recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) clarification on Medicare coverage of medically necessary oral and dental health therapies in the 2025 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) final rule.
This rule further clarifies Medicare payment policy for dental services that are inextricably linked to the treatment of beneficiaries with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The Consortium consists of more than 240 leading dental, medical, and nursing groups, patient and consumer advocates, and care delivery providers. The group is “guided by documented evidence that medically necessary treatment of oral microbial infections is essential to combatting and preventing a wide range of costly chronic conditions.”
