The Center for Medicare Advocacy is releasing a new resource, Improvements to Medicare Advantage Oversight and Consumer Protections Must Be Preserved and Expanded. The issue brief explains how during the Biden Administration modest, but important, progress was made in improving access to care for Medicare Advantage (MA) enrollees in areas such as oversight of prior authorization, network adequacy, marketing misconduct, and supplemental benefits.
The issue brief outlines some of these recent improvements in important oversight and consumer protection measures surrounding the MA program, including in the CY2026 proposed rule issued by the outgoing Biden Administration, the fate of which will be determined by the new Trump Administration.
“The insurance industry and their allies are trying to reverse some of these gains, and oppose further oversight, while pleading for ‘stability’” says David Lipschutz, Co-Director of the Center for Medicare Advocacy and author of the issue brief. “Instead, it is clear that current protections and oversight fall short, and policymakers should further expand such measures.”
The CMA issue brief is available here.
