The Center for Medicare Advocacy (the Center) has an immediate opening for a full-time Advocacy & Outreach Specialist, primarily for its Connecticut clientele. The Advocacy & Outreach Specialist will join the team that provides direct client services, referrals, education, and community outreach to help people who rely on Medicare get access to health care.
The Advocacy & Outreach Specialist will provide timely, accurate information and assistanceabout traditional Medicare Parts A & B, the Medicare Advantage (MA) program, and Medicare Part D – prescription drugs. In addition, the Advocacy & Outreach Specialist will prepare materials and join colleagues to present at trainings, seminars and events for other professionals and the community.
The Center for Medicare Advocacy is a private, non-profit law organization that provides legal assistance and education to help older people and people with disabilities gain fair access to Medicare, health equity, and health care. The Center focuses on the needs of people with chronic conditions and those in need of longer-term care. The organization’s work includes individual advocacy, education, legislative analysis, and litigation of importance to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. Headquartered in Connecticut and Washington, DC, the Center also has attorneys in CA and MA.
The Center’s Connecticut office is located in Mansfield − 15 minutes from the University of Connecticut, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1½ hours from Boston and 2½ hours from New York City. Some remote work is an option.
The successful candidate must have excellent oral, written, and organizational skills; curiosity to learn and resolve problems; a compassionate drive to help others; a collaborative community spirit; and a passion for social justice.
A college degree is preferred. Experience providing direct assistance is preferred. As needed, subject-matter training in Medicare-related topics will be provided by the Center. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
