Coalition Opposes Immunity for Nursing Facilities

August 6, 2020

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Coalition for the Protection of Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities opposes efforts at the federal and state levels to grant nursing homes blanket immunity from liability during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In its Issue Brief, the Coalition explains that such immunity harms residents by rewarding bad actors and that the possibility of liability, in contrast, creates incentives for facilities to comply with statutory and regulatory protections for residents.  As noted in the Issue Brief, immunity from liability also places workers and communities at risk and perpetuates racial disparities in health care.

The Center for Medicare Advocacy is a member of the Coalition along with other resident advocacy organizations, attorneys, and the Service Employees International Union.
