The Center for Medicare Advocacy is pleased to see that President Obama has nominated a new head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Dr. Donald Berwick is a renowned medical expert, with a proven emphasis on improving quality of care. The Center looks forward to working with him to improve quality of the care for all Medicare beneficiaries, including people with chronic conditions.
In particular we look forward to Dr. Berwick's assistance in eliminating the "Improvement Standard." The myth that is used to deny medically necessary care to eligible Medicare beneficiaries prevents those beneficiaries from maintaining or retaining their quality of life.
Dr. Berwick, as a former member of the Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Healthcare Industry, will certainly be a valuable ally to all advocates for fair access to Medicare and Health care.
