Today the House of Representatives passed a joint budget resolution, wrapping up the first phase of the budget reconciliation process. Next, the details must be developed for a package that is in line with the levels laid out in the budget resolution. This is where the potential for massive cuts to the Medicaid program would be presented. The budget resolution gave congressional committees instructions with budgetary directives, including the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s directive to cut $880 billion in spending; this committee has jurisdiction over Medicaid. With members returning to their home states and districts for April recess, the Center for Medicare Advocacy is flagging our joint resource, below, outlining how cuts to Medicaid are cuts to Medicare and would hurt millions of Medicare beneficiaries. Dangerous and unprecedented cuts to Medicaid and other safety net programs should be rejected.
